Dr. Douglas Scott received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, ophthalmology training from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland and completed a fellowship in glaucoma at Harvard University in Massachusetts. He has practiced general ophthalmology with an emphasis on glaucoma in the Lakes Region since 1990. He has expertise in the latest diagnostic and therapeutic laser modalities used in the treatment of glaucoma. With an interest in international medicine, Dr. Scott has been traveling to El Salvador since 2007 to provide ophthalmic care and instruction in advanced surgical techniques to local cataract surgeons.
Dr. Andrew Garfinkle received his medical degree from the University of Washington, ophthalmology training from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and completed additional fellowship training in cornea researching the healing mechanisms of the surface of the eye. As an Assistant Professor at McGill University, he became involved in excimer laser surgery in 1992 as the technique was evolving. He has performed over 8,000 excimer laser treatments and is a certified VISX trainer who has taught other eye surgeons to do LASIK and PRK surgery.
Dr. Michael Smit is a board certified optometrist who received his optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Smit was in private practice in Denver, Colorado for several years prior to moving to the Lakes Region and joining Laconia Eye in 2002. His focus is on primary eye care including the non-surgical detection and treatment of eye disease, examinations for glasses, and contact lens fitting. Dr. Smit welcomes more challenging contact lens patients including dry eyes, keratoconus and post surgical fitting.
Dr. Richard Walker is a board certified optometrist who received his optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Prior to joining Laconia Eye this year, Dr. Walker worked in New Jersey for a group practice where he provided non-surgical care for cataract, glaucoma and refractive surgery patients. During his tenure in New Jersey he was appointed by the Governor to the State Board of Optometry. Dr. Walker's areas of special interest are glaucoma and contact lens fitting as well as providing primary eye care for patients of all ages.
